Edwin Schrodinger thought that electrons were arranged in orbitals which were distributed within electron clouds. He defined an orbital as: The region of space that surrounds a nucleus in which two electrons may randomly move. The first shell of had 2 ecletrons, the second had 8, and ect. The model he discovered is the one we use today.
